Do you ever feel like you’ve ran out of things to share with your readers? Does your blank screen ever intimidate you because you can’t think of anything to write?
Don’t worry, it happens to everyone and it’s not the end of the world. Next time you’re faced with the blank screen and need new content ideas, give these tips a try.
They say that if you want to reach your goals you need to write them down, but that it’s also a good idea to track your results when starting new projects so you can see how far you’ve come.
This idea can be flipped to come up with fresh new content ideas as well.
Go to your favorite blogs. Pick four or five of them so you have a good mix of topics. Dig into the archives from a year ago and read what was hot back then. Was it Twitter news and gadgets, Facebook news and gadgets, a new hot report that an A-list blogger released?
Try to find the topics that received quite a few comments. Read the posts and the comments and then answer these questions.
Is this material still relevant today? How is it still relevant? Why isn’t it still relevant? What happened?Did this product flop?Is this product still a hot topic one year later?Next, go through your own content from a year ago and answer the questions above, if applicable, along with these questions.
How have you changed in the past year?Have you become a better marketer?Do you have a lot more followers? What were hot topics for you last year?Did something flop? Can you go back and explain why it flopped?Other things you can try:
==> Go through categories at other blogs and your own blog too. Do any of them spark any ideas? Is there a category you forgot about because you only posted one article in it?
==> Are there any questions in the comment sections of other blogs or yours that went unanswered? Do they relate to your niche and can use them for blog material?
==> Ask for reader input. Don’t be afraid to ask your readers what questions they need answered or which topics they’d like you to write about. They don’t have to know that you need new ideas; they just simply need to know that you care enough to ask them.
Generating new content ideas can be tough sometimes, but going through older content and bringing it back to life can be great ways to come up with new stuff.
What other ways do you generate content ideas? We’d love to hear your suggestions.
